In a special interview given to Reed Exhibitions Brazil, organiser of LACIME 2004, the first Latin American & Caribbean Incentive & Meetings Exhibition, in partnership with ABAV Nacional, the president of the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau talks about the SPC&VB’s goals for tourism and travel and its expectations for the event
Receptive tourism – Between 2001 and 2002 São Paulo moved up 22 positions in the rank order of the world’s top meeting destinations, from 70th to 48th. “Our goal is to be the 20th meeting destination in the world by 2007,” says Roberto Gueler, president of the São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau (SPC&VB). But it’s no accident that SPC&VB has these ambitious goals. With the June opening of LACIME 2004 only a few months away, São Paulo State is developing activities geared to boosting the capacity of the receptive travel industry and the population of the state capital to welcome visitors from other parts of Brazil and from other countries and continents.
