Dollar hike should not reduce demand for the United States, says ABAV’s vice-president

Demand for U.S. cities, and positive figures in last few years encourage destination to participate in 41st ABAV – Tourism Fair of the Americas

“Even though the variation of the U.S. dollar, which has appreciated compared to the Brazilian real, raises from 6% to 7% the costs of international traveling for Brazilian tourists, it will not cause a retraction in demand, especially now, during the July vacations,” said Leonel Rossi Jr., VP of International Affairs of ABAV, during the International Pow Wow 2013, held from June 8 to 12 in Las Vegas.

Considering that package tours to the United States sold in Brazil can be paid in up to ten installments, Rossi Jr. believes the impact of the dollar raise on the average price of tours to Disney or cities like New York, Miami, and Orlando will be of nearly R$800—which should not significantly affect the demand from Brazilians for that country.

“The nominal price for stays, and food and beverage in the United States are appealing. There are even hotels that offer rooms with two queen/king size beds, which make it even more affordable for family groups to travel,” he said.

ABAV 2013

In 2012, nearly 1.8 million Brazilians visited the United States and spent more than US$8 billion, making Brazil the sixth largest source of tourists for the region. The number of Brazilians in the country rose 450% in the last ten years.

Based on this scenario and encouraged by positive figures, the United States has already confirmed its presence as a destination at the 41st ABAV – Tourism Fair of the Americas. The Grand USA stand will occupy nearly 450 square meters, and its goal will be to promote the major U.S. destinations.

With more than 2,700 exhibitors, ABAV 2013 will gather representatives of more than 60 countries, interested in strengthening the bonds with participating travel agencies and Brazilian tourists and presenting their most important tourism attractions. The event will take place from September 4 to 8, at PavilhĂŁo Anhembi in SĂŁo Paulo.
