Travelport supports the campaign "For a trade greener" and will plant 641 seedlings
The planting of 641 seedlings will offset carbon dioxide emissions during the 40th ABAV - The Tourism Fair of the Americas and the 40th Brazilian Congress of Travel Agencies
São Paulo, 23 de outubro de 2012 - - Travelport, a global leader in transaction processing for the travel industry and operator of global distribution platforms Galileo and Worldspan, celebrates that, once again, ABAV - Tourism Fair of the Americas and Brazilian Congress of Travel Agencies, both conducted by the 40th turn and organized by the Brazilian Association of Travel Agencies (National ABAV) it will participate in the 2012 edition of the campaign "For a greener trade."
The campaign consists in offsetting CO2 emitted transmissions because of the realization of events, by planting seedlings that soon will become trees. In this issue of the campaign, Travelport will be responsible by planting 641 seedlings, which may outweigh 159.86 tCO2e (tonnes of carbon dioxide) emitted with the organization of the fair and congress.
"In 2012, the fifth consecutive year, the events of ABAV participate in the campaign of carbon offsetting, which is a source of pride for ABAV National and regional entities", said Antonio Azevedo, President of the National ABAV.
António Loureiro, Managing Director of Travelport for Portugal, Spain and Brazil reiterates Azevedo’s satisfaction. "The example of the 38th Meeting Commercial BRAZTOA, when Travelport has engaged in clearing CO2 by planting more than 580 seedlings, we are engaged around the offset of carbon dioxide to be emitted by the completion of the 40th ABAV, the largest fair tour of the Americas, in addition to the Brazilian Congress of Travel Agencies in Rio de Janeiro. It is a virtuous campaign, where more than 600 seedlings will be planted. "
More than 5000 seedlings have already offset the effects of the gas since 2008. To evaluate these numbers, Travelport and ABAV rely on the expertise of the Institute Totum.
And visitors who want to offset the emissions generated by their displacement can also participate in this campaign. They should access the site www.travelportbrasil.com.br/porumtrademaisverde/ABAV, use the CO2 calculator and follow the steps to purchase seedlings from the SOS Mata Atlantica.
